There’s finally an update on the much awaited Sania Mirza biopic. Since Bollywood seems to be obsessed with biopics of successful sports stars, this one was just waiting to happen. We just had Soorma with Diljit Dosanjh playing the ex-hockey captain Sandeep Singh, and biopics on Sania Nehwal and Abhinav Bindra are currently under production. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Ronnie Screwvala has just acquired the rights to make a film on the life of Sania Mirza.
Sania Mirza, the former world No.1 in the doubles category, who also has won 6 Grand Slam titles, will indeed be an exciting subject for a biopic. The report mentions that though Ronnie has bagged the rights to make a biopic on Sania, the director is yet to be finalised after which the process of casting for the film will begin.
The film will focus on both Sania’s professional life as well as her personal one, which will include her wedding with Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik in 2010. Sania and Shoaib announced their pregnancy recently via social media.
As in the case with films like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, MS Dhoni : The Untold Story and Mary Kom, there is no doubt that the producers will be looking for an established, A-lister to play Sania in the film. Also, the actor who signs up will be undergoing an intense training process to familiarise her with the game of tennis. But of course the big question is - who will play Sania Mirza on the big screen?
