Ranveer Singh Welcomes Deepika in the ‘83 Squad’
It’s not new for real-life couples to play reel-life ones on the big screen. But something we’re really excited about is to see Deepika Padukone play Ranveer Singh’s wife in Kabir Khan’s upcoming sports drama 83. This will be their first movie together as a married couple.
Deepika has joined the cast of the film in Glasgow and Ranveer took to Instagram to share some pictures of them with director Kabir Khan. From the looks of it, the three are having a great time in the city. Ranveer officially welcomed his wife to the ‘83 squad’ as he wrote, “ *drum roll* All smiles as All-star @deepikapadukone joins the #83squad!!!”
The actor, who is playing Kapil Dev in the film, couldn’t contain his excitement on Deepika playing the role of his wife and credited Kabir Khan with the ‘genius’ decision. He wrote, “Who better to play My Wifey than My Wifey?! @deepikapadukone plays Romi Dev in @83thefilm!! Genius casting courtesy @kabirkhankk”
Apart from these pictures, he also shared a rather funny video of Deepika hitting him with a cricket bat, and captioned it, “Story of my Life. Real & Reel !”
Deepika also posted the photographs marking the day one of her shoot, saying, “& on to the next...Thank You @kabirkhankk for this incredible honour...! #RomiDev#Day1”
Recently, she had confirmed her role as Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Bhatia in the film. She said that she gave a nod to the film out of “passion and enthusiasm” and not just because Ranveer was starring in it.
“I have met her a few times, including our wedding reception, and I have interacted with her socially over the years. I am also referring to whatever material the director’s team has sent across to me. My parents have known their family for many years. So, I feel I know her and hope that she is proud and happy with the film. I intend to connect and spend some time with her before I start filming to be able to understand her perspective better.”Deepika Padukone
Deepika also recently finished wrapping up shooting for Chhapaak. The Meghna Gulzar directorial is based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.
83 is based on India’s historic win at the 1983 Cricket World Cup. It also stars Hardy Sandhu, Chirag Patil, Saqib Saleem, Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Bhasin, Ammy Virk and Saahil Khattar. The film releases on 10 April 2020.
