Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film Saare Jahaan Se Accha, based on Indian astronaut Rakesh Sharma, was to go on floors in February but a report by DNA suggests that the actor has now dropped out of the film.
While no official reason has been cited, speculation is rife that SRK has chosen to commit to Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3 instead. Farhan Akhtar had earlier announced that the film was in the pipeline. At the trailer launch of Gully Boy, which is being directed by sister Zoya Akhtar, he also mentioned that he would soon be making a special announcement, which some suspect could be to do with Don 3.
It’s possible that after the audience’s lukewarm response to Zero, which released in December last year, SRK is choosing to be cautious about the film he signs on next. Aamir Khan had earlier been approached to play the lead in Saare Jahaan Se Accha as well but declined owing to his commitment to his project on the Mahabharata.
Saare Jahaan Se Accha will be directed by Mahesh Mathai and written by Anjum Rajabali. Ronnie Screwvala will produce the film, along with Siddharth Roy Kapur, under the RSVP films and Roy Kapur Films banners respectively.
