We all know Barack Obama as the first black president of The United States, but the trailer of Barry tells the story of how he made it to the White House. The Netflix original film takes us back to Obama’s days as a student at Columbia University.

Devon Terrell plays the young future-president and does a fabulous job of it. The film has been directed by host and documentarian Vikram Gandhi.

The biopic traces Barry’s journey as he finds his way through life and the politics of colour. The trailer’s timely release is probably making US citizens wonder about their newest President, Donald Trump. The film was premiered at The Toronto International Film Festival recently and is about to shape Obama’s legacy as a president.

Son of a white mother from Kansas City and a black father from Kenya, Barry was born in Honolulu. He grew up in Los Angeles and later moved to Columbia in 1981.

Barry speaks to all mixed race Americans and migrants in a way that they can relate to, thanks to their fight for identity in a racially charged environment. It’s endearing to see the real side of the most powerful man in the world, before he became the most powerful man in the world.

Barry will be available on Netflix in December 2016.
