Remember the rape allegations that ended Shiney Ahuja’s Bollywood career? Well, Balaji Telefilms, the makers of Great Grand Masti decided to have some fun with it, and as was expected, it has angered the actor enough for him to take legal action against producer Ekta Kapoor.

In the 15 July adult comedy release, the character of the house maid is named Shiney. The actor and his lawyers feel that this rude, cheap joke is bound to prejudice the minds of viewers against the actor and also impact pending judicial proceedings.

In the legal notice, Shiney’s advocate has pointed out that the conduct of the producers of the movie at this juncture constitutes Criminal Contempt as defined under Section 2(c) of the Contempt of Court Act 1971.

The name of the maid ‘Shiney’ and the actors trying to find some masti with her in the movie Great Grand Masti, will have greater ramification and impact on the mind of the viewer and will tend to curtail or impair the freedom of the limbs of the judicial proceedings.
(As mentioned in the legal notice)

The legal notice calls for immediate removal of the name ‘Shiney’ from the movie before its release. It further warns of legal action, civil as well as criminal, if the requisite demand is not met.

Shiney Ahuja had been convicted of the rape charges against him and sentenced to seven years in prison. He has been out on bail since 2011, and has filed an appeal against the verdict in the Bombay High Court.

This is the second time for Ashutosh Gowariker at Europe’s highly acclaimed and widely attended film festival.

I am extremely happy to know that the Locarno Film Festival has selected Mohenjo Daro as their Closing Film at the Piazza Grande! When Lagaan was screened at the same Piazza, on a giant screen, one of the biggest in the world, it was an out-of-the-world experience to see an audience of 8000 plus of different nationalities, applaud the film. I am excitedly looking forward to Locarno this time with Mohenjo Daro.
