Attention Lord of the Rings fans: Minas Tirith might soon be coming to earth. Yup, you’ve heard that right; the fictional city that was featured in JRR Tolkein’s popular series of books and immortalised by Peter Jackson in celluloid might soon be recreated in the UK!
A self-confessed group of “ambitious architects” have started a crowdfunding project, by means of which they want to create a “beautiful, inspirational replica” of Tolkein’s city.
Tolkein fans will remember Minas Tirith most vividly as that massive ‘White City’ that the forces of Mordor laid siege to in the Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. The battle scene was near epic, and the city in Jackson’s glorious vision, never looked more resplendent.
Well, ALL of this might become a reality – but only if you’re willing to stake claim to the fact that this bunch of fans can actually realise this project. The “architects” have declared that they need to raise £1.85bn to fully fund the project – which means, costs of building, land, labour, etc. Any money left over will be used for the maintenance and upkeep of the new city and is projected to last till 2053.

So far – at least till the time of this article – the proud Tolkein fans have managed to raise only £45,261 (raised by 1,126 people in 13 days). This is particularly disheartening as the group has given themselves a timespan of 60 days within which to complete the funding process – an ambition as steep as some of the misty mountains of LOTR.
However, Frodo and Gandalf if anything, taught us to believe in miracles, big ans small, and fans will continue to hold out hope till their team is up. As of now, if they do contribute, there are various incentives waiting for them!
