21 May 1994. That’s the day, 18-year-old Sushmita Sen created history as she was crowned Miss Universe. 23 years later, Sush has achieved much and carved a niche for herself.
The first Indian Miss Universe took to social media to thank all the people who helped her attain her dream.
The party begins! It’s 23 years tomorrow of YOU making me believe every moment of every year that the universe truly conspires in my favour. Because of YOU I’ve known love that persists, transcending all else including geography. THANK YOU. @thefatimakhalid @srksberrli @gunjan15aug for being my alchemists. YOURS, Miss Universe 1994 I LOVE YOU!Sushmita Sen (via Instagram)
Here’s the throwback crowning moment of the Bengali beauty.
Sushmita beat crowd-favourite Aishwarya Rai for the Miss India Universe crown the same year.
Despite what many would consider a taboo, the unconventional Bengali beauty adopted her first daughter, Renée when she was 25 years and single in 2000. She adopted her second child, three-month-old girl, Alisah in 2010.
Sushmita has carved a niche for herself and made a name for herself on the global front.
