Days after her controversial statement to people belonging to the Muslim community, Union Minister and senior BJP leader Maneka Gandhi said she will categorise different villages in her constituency as per votes registered and will then prioritise development accordingly, ANI reported on Monday, 15 April.
Addressing a public meeting in Pilibhit, where her son Varun Gandhi is contesting from, Maneka Gandhi said she will categorise all villages as A,B,C,D.
“The village where we get 80 percent votes is A, the village in which we get 60 percent is B, the village where we get 50 percent will be C… The development work first happens in all Category A villages. After A is done, the comes B. So this is up to you whether you make it to A, B or C and no one should come in D because we all have come here to do good,” she said, reported ANI.
Gandhi will be contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
Last week in Sultanpur, she was recorded on camera ‘pressurising’ members of the Muslim community to vote for her or else ‘she may not work towards fulfilling their needs when she wins’.
Gandhi said she had “already won” the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, and attempted to coerce the Muslim members of the audience attending her rally ‘to decide’ if they want her to work for them.
She said that while her victory was guaranteed, if she found out that an area had not voted for her, then things would turn sour.
“I am winning... I am winning because of the support of the people. But, if my win is sans the support of Muslims... then I wouldn’t feel too good... things will then turn sour. In such a scenario, if a Muslim comes to me for work, I will not be inclined to do it... I’ll think, ‘how does it matter?’ A job is about give and take... it’s not like we all are Mahatma Gandhi’s children,” Gandhi said at the rally.
