No Result: India vs West Indies First ODI Abandoned Due to Rain

39.2 overs were bowled on Friday in the first ODI between West Indies and India in Port of Spain before rain joined the party and effectively ended it as well. India had scored 199 at the loss of three wickets.

The top-scorer of the Indian innings was opener Shikhar Dhawan who extended his red-hot form with an 87-run knock. Two rain interruptions later, the West Indies target was revised to 194 in 26 overs but with the clouds once again opening up, the organisers chose to call it a day.

The first time rain stopped play, India were 189 for three in 38 overs. Play resumed after loss of a few minutes but only 10 balls were bowled when rain again stopped play. The Indian innings could not be re-started after that.

India got off to a solid start as openers Shikhar Dhawan (87) and Ajinkya Rahane (62) forged a 132-run partnership before the latter was sent back to the pavilion by pacer Alzarri Joseph in the 25th over. Rahane's 78-ball knock included eight boundaries.

Unperturbed by the fall of Rahane's wicket, Dhawan kept on scoring with a good pace and skipper Virat Kohli (32 not out) was just rotating the strike. But in the process, Dhawan was adjudged leg before wicket off spinner Devendra Bishoo in the 32nd over. While trying to play the ball towards the midwicket, Dhawan missed the ball which hit the pad.

New batsman Yuvraj Singh (4) and Kohli then tried to take forward the Indian innings with the same momentum but Yuvraj was dismissed by skipper Jason Holder in the 37th over after adding 17 runs with Kohli.

The fall of wicket brought in Mahendra Singh Dhoni (9 not out), who along with the skipper tried to stabilise the innings before the sky opened up.

For West Indies, Holder, Joseph and Bishoo chipped in with one wicket each.
