Samsung unveiled its latest Galaxy S lineup – the S7 and S7 Edge – at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016. The phones look much like the previous Galaxy S variants, but get some crucial features that were missing last year.
The Korean brand has claimed that the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are now equipped to click high-quality pictures in low light and get add-on storage support as well. The phones are Samsung’s first-ever Galaxy S devices to offer water and dust resistance. With IP68 certified, Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, you can immerse the phones in up to 1.5 metres of water for 30 minutes.
The phones will be available across markets from 11 March, which should most definitely include India as well. The prices haven’t been revealed yet.
The other big changes with the newest Galaxy S phones is the bulging camera unit at the back which is now in line with the shape of the phone, ie no protruding issues. The display quality remains untouched, however with Quad-HD (2560x1440 pixels) already in use, we have no complaints on that front.
The company added a bigger battery unit with 3000mAh and 3600mAh on Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge respectively. This way, the phones with an octa-core processor and 4GB RAM can last for a longer duration.
The latest Galaxy S variants are pitted against the LG G5, the Apple iPhone 6S (and iPhone 7 later this year) across the globe. Most of us might say that much like Apple, Samsung has kept things simple but for the features that have been offered, we feel the Galaxy S7 range is a fined-tuned version of last year’s Galaxy S6 variants.
