Did you miss us on Facebook, for a little while on Thursday? The social networking site was down for a few hours, and was a cause for anxiety for all of us active users. Facebook reportedly hung because it tried to upload a 360-degree video.
According to The Independent, the error page on Facebook said that they were “working on it”. While a lot of us were stranded for the brief period that the site was down, not all users noticed the crash.
The new feature requires relatively complex processes and it is likely that this caused the glitch. Facebook did some quick damage control and the site was up and running soon after.
The new feature, 360 video, lets the user move a mouse or a mobile device to shift perspective in the video. Currently, this type of video requires a relatively complex filming set-up to achieve the same effect. As the technology improves, Facebook hopes it will become popular among users.
