The Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party have locked horns over allegations and counter-allegations of corruption.

BJP President Amit Shah summoned party member Kirti Azad on Friday and asked him to refrain from making any statement related to the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) allegations against Arun Jaitley.

Azad has had a history of attacking Jaitley over issues corruption during his tenure as the DDCA chief. Azad has, however, stuck to his decision of holding a press conference on the issue on Sunday.

Though there was no official comment on what transpired in the meeting, party sources said Shah advised Azad to exercise restraint. He also apparently said that opposition parties have used these charges to attack the BJP.

It was a good meeting (with Shah). I will hold the press conference on Sunday.

On December 16, Delhi CM Kejriwal accused Jaitley of corruption in DDCA after the CBI raided the former’s office.

Azad is a former cricketer who has played for India and was part of 1983 World Cup Winning Team.

Kejriwal has claimed that the CBI went through a file on Jaitley and his term in as DDCA chief. Based on this file, Kajriwal was going to order an enquiry in the alleged irregularities in DDCA.

“With BJP now in power in Delhi, Congress and AAP are using the same charges to embarrass Jaitley and the BJP,” said another BJP leader.

Shah’s summoning of Azad came a day after BJP general secretary Ram Lal spoke with the latter over the same issue.
