Dengue claims yet another child in Delhi barely a week after a seven-year-old boy died after being denied admission in various hospitals. This time too the six-year-old was not allowed admission in the government-run Safdarjung Hospital and three others, citing unavailability of beds.

Aman’s family was told by hospital authorities that there was nothing to worry about but his condition deteriorated within 24 hours. Thereafter, he was taken from one hospital to another but taken in anywhere.

Meanwhile, the patients’ line outside hospitals is increasing with every passing day. MC Mishra, director of AIIMS told ANI that “dengue doesn’t mean death, most of the cases are treatable.”

Mortality rate in dengue is very low. 99.9% cases will be all right, only a fraction go into dengue shock syndrome.
— MC Mishra, director of AIIMS

As is normal with other cases children, elderly people and pregnant women remain susceptible to dengue, so precaution needs to be taken.

He also added,

Hospitals need to treat cases that come, stabilise them. Then they can recommend admission elsewhere.
