The Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose files lying with the West Bengal government will be made available to the public today. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced on September 11 that the 64 files on Netaji will be declassified.

Coincidentally, it was on this day 70 years ago that ashes, believed to be of Netaji, were accepted by the Renkōji Temple in Tokyo.

The files, spanning the time between 1937 and 1947, are in the police archives and will be digitised before declassification, reports Times Now. Family members of Netaji welcomed the move and hoped that this will put more pressure on the Centre to declassify the files.

I welcome this step. Mamata has just responded to the demand of the nation. People would like to know what happened to Bose, who is known as the liberator of India.
— Chandrakumar Bose, grand nephew of Subhas Chandra Bose

Hope Centre follows steps and declassifies the 130 files lying with the PMO. I also hope that Russia and UK are encouraged to contribute their files. I feel a great sense of relief and we definitely hope to take this forward.
— Ardhendu Bose, Netaji’s nephew
