UK’s decision to “Brexit” threw open a plethora of issues, one of them being the politics of immigration in the country.
Junaid Masood’s Facebook photo is an attempt to add to the discussion and tell people how Europe immigration is the foundation of the National Health Service (NHS).
The photo, titled “We are Europe!”, shows, an Irish radiographer, three scrub nurses from Spain, a German consultant anaesthetist, urology specialist registrar from Greece and a British Pakistani consultant urologist.
The idea is to display the cultural hybridity at NHS and how it relies upon immigration from other European countries.
Masood, who posted the picture while working at Homerton University Hospital in east London, said immigration is “the backbone” of the NHS. The photo has gone viral after it was shared over 16,000 times.
The urologist also wrote:
Today we have been hard at work improving people’s lives! This is what our friends from Europe do for the NHS. Let’s speak out for working together and not being a divided society. Immigration has been the backbone of the NHS we all love and cherish, and is good for our society and country.
Rising above the politics of the debate, people responded to the Facebook post with support for Masood’s views.
