Have you ever reported any sexual harassment or violence against you to the police? Have you ever accompanied anyone going to a police station to register a complaint?

Amnesty International India has launched a campaign on violence against women. ‘Ready to Report’, a national campaign, will work towards ensuring that women can report sexual violence safely without facing any prejudices.

National statistics show that for every one woman who reports sexual violence to the police, there are 99 who do not. Women often do not feel confident about walking in to a police station to report any form of sexual violence. Sometimes, they are not aware of the formal procedure to file an official complaint.

Amnesty International India is also set to take forward the learning process of filing an FIR through Interactive voice response, WhatsApp, e-learning videos and Haptik (a mobile-based chat platform that offers support services).

However, despite such attempts, a girl was recently harassed in full public view in the heart of central Delhi. The harassment survivor’s friend Radhika P Singh took to Facebook to describe the ordeal her friend was put through by the Delhi Police.
