1. Tendulkar and Pathan Congratulate Team India
India’s batting legend Sachin Tendulkar congratulated the Virat Kohli-led Team India for its crushing win over West Indies in the opening Test of the four-match series in Antigua, according to PTI.
India defeated the hosts by an innings and 92 runs in the first Test, which also happens to be the first assignment of the new head coach Anil Kumble.
Riding on Kohli’s 200 and Ashwin’s 113, India amassed 566 for 8 declared in the first innings and then dismissed the West Indies for 243 and 231 runs in first and second innings respectively.
All-rounder Irfan Pathan also heaped praise on Ashwin.
The second Test begins in Kingston on 30 July.
2. Narsingh Yadav Demands CBI Probe Into Doping Scandal
A defiant Narsingh Yadav has demanded a CBI probe into the doping scandal which has jeopardised his participation in the Olympics, alleging that a conspiracy has been hatched to scuttle his Rio dream.
There should be a CBI inquiry. The whole episode relating to my selection had gone to court. There was a CID report that my life is under threat. All this makes it clear, I have been framed so that I am stopped from going to Rio. 3. Seven Russian Swimmers to Miss Rio Olympics Over Doping
Seven Russian swimmers have been barred from the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, including three linked to recent allegations of a major doping cover-up by Russian authorities, world swimming’s governing body FINA said Monday, according to AP.
Reigning world 100-metre breaststroke champion Yulia Efimova is among four Russian swimmers withdrawn by the Russian swimming federation because they previously served doping bans, FINA said. The others are Natalya Lovtsova, Anastasia Krapivina and Mikhail Dovgalyuk.
The International Olympic Committee on Sunday said Russian athletes with previous doping bans would be banned from the Rio Games. That followed the IOC’s decision not to ban the entire Russian team over allegations of state-sponsored doping.

Sushil Kumar, Narsingh Yadav’s biggest competitior for the 74kg slot at the Rio Olympics, has spoken out to clarify his stand following the latter’s failed dope test.
Voices in Indian wrestling wasted no time in pointing fingers at the two-time Olympic medallist when news of Narsingh’s failed test came to light on Sunday.
Speaking to CNN-News18, the two-time Olympic medallist expressed his sorrow at being dragged into the controversy.
During the case I fought as hard as I could against Narsingh to seek justice, but once the verdict came out I have fully supported Narsingh. He is like a younger brother to me but to hear people say I could be involved in this matter is very disappointing.Sushil Kumar
5. England Beat Pakistan by 330 Runs in Second Test
England dismissed Pakistan for 234 on Monday to win the second Test by 330 runs with a day to spare and level the four-match series 1-1, according to AP.
Pakistan’s batting crumbled against England’s impeccable seamers with the second innings ending after tea as the tourists chased an unlikely record target of 565.
Chris Woakes grabbed 3-41 to stretch his wicket tally to 18 in two Test matches while James Anderson and off-spinner Moeen Ali also picked up three wickets each.
Opening batsman Mohammad Hafeez top-scored with 42 but Pakistan always looked vulnerable against England’s all-time leading wicket-taker Anderson, who missed the first Test due to injury.
6. FIFA Ethics Panel Bans Ex-Head of German FA for One Year
FIFA’s Ethics Committee has banned Wolfgang Niersbach, the former President of the German Football Association, for one year for failing to report potential misconduct surrounding the award of the 2006 soccer World Cup in Germany, according to Reuters.
The adjudicatory chamber of FIFA’s Ethics Committee banned Niersbach from all football-related activity, it said on Monday. FIFA investigators had sought a two-year ban.
The present case did not look into possible breaches of the FIFA code of ethics in relation to possible acts of bribery and/or corruption with regards to the award of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, but only evaluated Mr Niersbach’s awareness of the said incidents and his failure to report them to the Ethics Committee in a timely manner.FIFA’s Ethics Committee’s Statement
