Graeme Smith’s Virgo Super Kings won a thrilling encounter against Brian Lara’s Leo Lions in the Masters Champions League.

The Super Kings needed 15 runs from the last over while they were chasing 147, with James Foster and Brett Lee at the crease.

Wicket-keeper batsman James Foster hit Fidel Edwards for two fours and a six, including a four of the final ball in the final over to take his team home.

The Super Kings pulled themselves out of a corner in this match. They didn’t have the best of starts and kept losing wickets at regular intervals, until Azhar Mahmood came in and smacked 48 from 28 balls (4x4, 2x6), which set the tone for the Virgos.

Kyle Jarvis transferred the pressure back to the Super Kings after he got Mahmood out in the 19th over. But James Foster’s 11-ball 23 ensured a four-wicket victory for the Virgos.

The Leo Lions had a disappointing start with the bat, losing Lara in the very first over. Murali Kartik and company kept picking up wickets and reduced the opposition to 102/7 by the 17th over.

Then, James Franklin and Heath Streak got along and strung a quick partnership of 44 runs to take the Lions to a respectable total.
