We are curating the best pieces for you from Day 2 of the Amazon India Fashion Week.
Gaurav Gupta’s Melting Necklines
Designer Gaurav Gupta’s collection, titled Melt, was meant to be a visual commitment to the cause of climate change.
This collection is a 90-95 percent zero waste collection...I’ve used deep colours that resemble the strongest colours in a fire. I’ve tried to invoke the feeling of melting, which is near and no longer an abstract fear.Gaurav Gupta
A piece such as this one makes the midriff look stunning. Plus the drapes over the pants make for great detail.
See the asymmetric detailing of the neckline – looking as though one side has melted – a reference to the melting glaciers in the Arctic region.
Kiran Uttam Ghosh’s Silver Lining
Designer Kiran Uttam Ghosh’s collection, Silver, brought out her love for the metal. Silver, which can assume many characteristics from fine, to rustic, to tribal, was interpreted in the form of silver filigree work, silver-coloured collars and hemlines, and wispy textures.
The deep colour makes the perfect canvas to the silver ka kaam.
The silver wispy fabric, swaying as the model moves, is a definite stunner.
Rina Dhaka’s Knotty Knitwear
Dhaka laid out some trends for the fall season and the things that stood out were sweater dresses, off shoulder outfits, and dark colours like black, gold, red, and blue with shimmer.
The knitwear had intricate stitch structures, adding surface dimension and texture. Ikat, chinar-like edgings are knitted with lurex in various blends to create dresses; some are woven to blend shapes like off shoulder, boat necks ruffles, and raw edges.
Our favourite: this charcoal silver knotted dress worn with a Tussar silk Chinar leaf-embroidered cape. A very unusual print.
Pallavi Mohan’s Textured Tale
There were woolen tweeds, soft velvet, silk organza and satins on display at Pallavi Mohan’s label, Not So Serious’ collection, Synthesis.
The mood was dominated by deep colours like winter wine, amber and teal.
Two details we found particularly interesting were these laser-cut feathers on top of the jacket which add drama to this outfit.
We even like the interwoven leather strips at the bottom of this dress. The unexpected texture is an intriguing element in the piece.
Shantanu and Nikhil’s Sultry Silhouettes
Designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil Mehra’s collection titled The Last Walk celebrated the spirit of the woman in different colours, her fierceness with the deep reds, her calmness with the beiges and her warmth with the greys.
Drapes, ruffled gowns, tulle skirts, sheer gowns, and capes dominated the collection that was all about layering, frills and flares.
We love the brown gown which marries with the feminine proportions so well.
