Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s elder son Rakesh Siddaramaiah passed away on Saturday due to multiple organ failure in Brussels, reported ANI.

Rakesh was hospitalised in Belgium after he developed complications in his pancreas while touring Europe with his friends. While he showed slight signs of improvement, he remained critical on ventilator support.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly requested the Indian Ambassador to Belgium to assist Siddaramaiah’s family in carrying out the legal formalities in bringing the body back to India on Sunday.

Rakesh, who had tried his hand in the Kannada film industry was currently nursing the Varuna Assembly constituency which is presently represented by his father. He was also viewed as the prospective Congress candidate to contest from Varuna.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reached Brussels after his younger son Dr Yathindra, his wife and their family doctor had rushed to Belgium when they learnt of Rakesh’s condition. The CM had told reporters that his son was “critical but stable” and was also said to have been in touch with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
