The Monsoon session began today with an expected uproar from the opposition over Lalit-gate and the Vyapam scam.

Congress uproar continued in Rajya Sabha despite Arun Jaitley saying Sushma Swaraj ready to make a statement on the floor of the House.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned multiple times amid the Opposition’s protest before being adjourned for the day.

Meanwhile, Sushma Swaraj was reported to have met Sonia Gandhi in the well of the House before the proceedings started.

Earlier as Prime Minister Narendra Modi headed for Parliament, which convened for a 21-day Monsoon Session today, he said, “The meeting with all parties was held in a very constructive atmosphere. We need to make important decisions for India’s progress.”

The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day after obituary references.

The Lok Sabha paid tribute to a sitting member and 13 former MPs who died in the recent past on the first day of the Monsoon session today, following which the House was adjourned without transacting any business.

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan also informed the House that TRS member from Warangal in Telangana, Kadiyam Srihari, had resigned on June 11 and she has accepted his resignation.

Dileep Singh Bhuria (71), a sitting BJP member from Ratlam, passed away on June 24. A veteran politician, he was a member of five Lok Sabhas earlier as well as a member of the Madhya Pradesh assembly.

The Lok Sabha also paid tribute to former members Ismail Hussain, Denzil B Atkinson, Sheshrao Deshmukh, Rana Vir Singh, Manoranjan Bhakta, Sheila Kaul, Shashi Prakash, Chand Ram, Rajshekhar Singh, Pratapsinh Shankar Rao Mohite, S M Bhattam, Moreshwar Save and Namdeo Harbaji Diwathe.
