Ranveer Singh who has two releases lined up – Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do (DDD) and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani is on a high. But then, when is he not? Though the actor hasn’t had a release since his last dud Kill Dil, he has been in the news thanks to - the AIB Roast controversy, his high on energy undergarment ad, his relationship with Deepika Padukone and his latest dance video in DDD with Anushka Sharma.
Speaking to the media while promoting his forthcoming release DDD, Ranveer reveals if he is happy with the films he does for the next 6 years, “I wouldn’t mind retiring at 35. It’s a great life to live. Just pursuing the good things – music, writing for no commercial gain, painting, meditating. That’s a good life.”
But he isn’t ready to hang his boots just yet, even if DDD and Bajirao Mastani became hits. “I am very hungry to do a lot of work. I have given myself till 5-6 more years till I turn 35 to retire, actually to semi-retire. Work for 3 months, do one film a year and chill – travel the world. Right now I am very happy and I want to do films back to back. I am excited to be exploring my own craft. I have become obsessed with film craft – to go into a scene – pour yourself into it.”
Ranveer also says that his greatest ambition is to be “an honourable family man like my father.” But without mentioning Deepika Padukone he adds, “I am working towards it.”
Talking about working with is ex-flame Anushka in DDD, Ranveer says, “Yes, I was very close to Anushka because I did my first two films with her at the beginning of my career. I was already shooting on the ship when I met her. I went up to her and we caught up for 2-3 hours and were catching up and we started working next day. The first thing I noticed was that she has really come a long way in her craft and has evolved as an actor. If you see Pehli Baar… we have great chemistry on screen even after so many years of Band Baaja Baarat. We have a natural chemistry together on screen.”
Ask him if he and Deepika will be able to recreate the magic that Bhansali wanted Aishwarya Rai and Salman to do earlier for Bajirao Mastani and Ranveer points to his injured arm and says, “I was not privy to any of this. For me it was not about who was going to be cast. For me it was Mr Bhansali’s most precious film and he selected me. None of the baggage or history is part of my mental periphery. I have give this film my blood, sweat and all. ”
