Dengue Claims Three More Lives, Death Toll in Delhi Rises to 33

Nearly 1,700 fresh cases of dengue have been reported in the city in the past week.

Three more people, including a 13-year-old boy, have died due to dengue in the capital, raising the death toll this season to 33.

Phatam (13) was admitted to the medicine ward of AIIMS on September 22 in a very critical condition having internal bleeding. He died of dengue shock syndrome yesterday afternoon, said AIIMS authorities.

Other victims include 50-year-old Gajendri, a resident of Jawala Nagar, who passed away at Swami Dayanand Saraswati Hospital in east Delhi and a 20-year-old youth who died of the vector-borne disease at GTB Hospital.

Gajendri was admitted for a week at the hospital. She had dengue, chest infection and severe anaemia.

Nearly 1,700 fresh cases of dengue have been reported in the city in the past week, taking the total number of people affected by dengue to 5,471.

Last year, the city had reported three deaths and recorded nearly 1,000 cases.
