Cyclone Fani: 3 Dead in Odisha, Roof of AIIMS Hostel Blown Off

Cyclone Fani, which made landfall in Odisha in the early hours of Friday, 3 May, has taken three lives so far.

Many areas in Puri have been submerged and as heavy rains continue to lash, the state government has advised people not to step out of their houses. Kolkata airport has been shut from 3 pm today to 8 am tomorrow. Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has cancelled all political campaigns and will be staying in Kharagpur. Though the cyclone has moved away from Andhra Pradesh, rescue efforts are in full force in 3 affected districts.

PM Modi Biopic to Release on 24 May, a Day After Counting Day

PM Narendra Modi, the biopic of on the prime minister, perhaps one of the most controversial films of the year, has finally gotten a release date. The film will be releasing on 24 May, a day after the results of the Lok Sabha elections will be declared. The Election Commission banned the film's release during elections as it could impact opinions on the ground. The Supreme Court had refused to interfere with the EC's decision.

‘Govt of India Responsible’: Assam Paper Mill Worker Kills Self

For almost 28 months, Biswajit Majumdar didn't receive his salary. The shutting down of the paper mill run by the Hindustan Paper Corporation in Assam brought his  life to a standstill.

A couple of days back, he was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his residence. He carved his suicide note onto the door of a refrigerator. It read: “I quit. Government of India is responsible for my death.”

The paper mills, which comes under the Union ministry of heavy industries and public enterprises, had stopped production in 2017 without any formal notice. Since then, the workers have held multiple protests to restart the mill but to no avail. Three employees have taken their lives so far.
