Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping for bilateral talks on Tuesday, the last day of the BRICS summit.

Briefing the media after bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar said that “peace and tranquility is a prerequisite” for the further development of India-China ties.

The two leaders had a “forward-looking” conversation, in a meeting that lasted an hour, said Jaishankar.

4. Debate: Should Marriage Stop Being a Contract That Legalises Rape?

Some things need to be said time and again so we’ll just say them upfront.

1. It’s 2017.

2. Sex without consent is rape.

3. But sex without consent is NOT rape, if the man and woman are married to each other. Yes, that’s what the law says.

It is in this context that The Quint hosted a debate on whether it is finally time for India to criminalise marital rape. Author Madhu Kishwar and lawyers Aishwarya Bhati and Reena Singh argued against the move, while young lawyers Soutik Banerjee and Neerja Gurnani were in favour of criminalisation.

5. Live: Relentless North Korea Warns US of “More Gift Packages”

A day after North Korea carried out its sixth and most powerful nuclear test, South Korea said that the Kim Jong-un led nation is ready to launch an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) any day.

An emergency UN Security Council meeting was convened to discuss the actions of Pyongyang.

Nikki Haley, the US Ambassador to UN, called for the Security Council to impose the “strongest possible” measures on North Korea, while saying its leader Kim Jong-un is "begging for war".

The Kremlin in Russia has asserted that North Korea's latest nuclear test creates a serious threat to peace and security in the region.
