New Look For NaMo Government; 19 New Ministers, Five Dropped

Union council of ministers expanded ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expanded his council of ministers by elevating Minister of State (MoS) for Environment Prakash Javadekar to Cabinet rank. He also inducted 19 new Ministers of State (MoS).

Except RPI leader Ramdas Athawale and Apna Dal lawmaker from Uttar Pradesh, Anupriya Patel, the remaining belong to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In addition, five MoS were dropped. Sanwar Lal Jat (Water Resources), Nihalchand (Panchayati Raj), Ram Shankar Katheria (Human Resources), Mansukh Bhai Vasava (Tribal Affairs) and Mohanbhai Kundaria (Agriculture) have been dropped.

With the induction of the 19 and the dropping of the five ministers, the strength of the Prime Minster’s Council of Ministers, including himself, now stands at 78.
