Advanced cases of cancers of the lung, mouth and throat caused due to tobacco consumption, where patients have been advised against chemotherapy or surgery, usually end in negative outcome with conventional medicine. However, some of these patients survive longer than expected if treated with homeopathy. The alleviation of symptoms is in fact, sometimes, so dramatic with homeopathy that oncologists in many cases have revised their advice and put such patients on chemotherapy. This was said by Dr. Kalyan Banerjee, Founder, Dr. Kalyan Banerjee’s Clinic, who is amongst the most celebrated homeopathy practitioners in the country.

Tobacco consumption is linked to many kinds of cancers, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, among others. Smoking doubles or quadruples the risk of coronary artery disease or stroke and raises the risk of developing lung cancer by 25 times. The causal link between smoking and other forms of tobacco use and serious, potentially life-threatening diseases is so strong, there is no safe way to consume tobacco. However, almost every condition linked to tobacco consumption can be managed with homeopathic treatment, exclusively or in combination with conventional medicine.

Talking about treating patients coping with mouth or throat cancer, Dr. Kalyan Banerjee, Founder, Dr. Kalyan Banerjee’s Clinic, said: “Early lesions are often advised by oncologists to be surgically removed. This may mean removal of parts of the tongue, jaw and other parts of the throat or mouth. Homeopathic treatment by the doctors at our Clinic can potentially heal these early lesions without surgery. It is important to monitor these cases closely and detect any progression early.”

Explained Dr. Kushal Banerjee, Dr. Kalyan Banerjee’s Clinic: “Homeopathy provides extremely effective management in cases of cancers of the mouth and throat that have undergone surgery. Homeopathy medicines help in quicker healing, pain alleviation and prevention of recurrence. Very frequently, homeopathy works in conjunction with chemotherapy and radiation, leading to better-than-expected outcomes. The doctors at our Clinic, in fact, work closely with patients in various hospitals across Delhi-NCR to help them recover from their procedures. Often, the introduction of homeopathic treatment leads to a revised, shorter course of chemotherapy than the initial plan.”

Dr. Kalyan Banerjee added: “A substantial number of patients come to doctors at our clinic to try and reduce the side-effects of chemotherapy and radiation. Some of these effects are quite painful and cause acute distress to patients. Homeopathy safely addresses these issues with great success. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and strokes are two other conditions whose occurrence can be contributed to the consumption of tobacco. Homeopathy provides great relief when taken over a prolonged period in these patients as well. It is extremely effective in helping patients wanting to give up their tobacco addiction by controlling the physical and mental symptoms that arise when tobacco consumption is stopped or reduced."

People who consume tobacco should ponder on the impact of this habit deeply. Today, it is difficult to find a patient who is unaware of the potential harm of tobacco consumption. As with every other form of addiction, the first step is to identify that we have a problem. There is a lot of help that can be accessed by discussion of the problem with one’s doctor and more importantly, with friends and family. Patients must learn to withstand peer pressure regarding such habits and take back control of their own health.

It is estimated that 47 percent of men and 14 percent of women consume tobacco in some form in India. This translates to a total of 154 million men and 41 million women. Tobacco consumption is significantly higher in poor and less educated classes as well as among scheduled castes and scheduled tribe populations.

Dr. Kushal Banerjee said: “It is possible to say no to tobacco. The responsibility of prevention falls in equal measure on the lap of doctors. They should feel duty bound to spend a few but vital extra minutes counselling any patient who has declared a tobacco addiction in his or her medical history or shows signs of it. Even if the current medical concerns of the patients are not linked to tobacco, doctors must wave proverbial red flags about the potential serious harms of this habit. The impact of repeating these warnings by a doctor can be much greater than reading them off a packaging sticker. Sometimes, doctors forget this.”
