Vegetable Prices Will Fall But Pulses ‘a Challenge’: Arun Jaitley

Arun Jaitley has said that fresh supplies of key commodities will be coming in, and that prices would fall.

  • Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on 17 June said that fresh supplies of various commodities are coming to the market in next few weeks, amid soaring prices of key commodities.

  • The Minister in an Interview with Times Now said that prices of tomatoes, potatoes and other vegetables would go down as fresh supplies comes in the subsequent weeks, and that at there is a seasonal fluctuation of vegetable prices at the moment.

  • Controlling the price of pulses would be a challenge as supply of pulses is short by around around 5 million tonnes compared to the demand, said Jaitley, adding that the government had been taking various measures to regulate this, including importing more pulses into India wherever possible.
