On Eid-ul-Fitr, PM Modi Wishes For ‘Peace, Brotherhood in Society’

May Eid bring prosperity & strengthen “faith in our unity and common destiny,” President Pranab Mukherjee said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi – who is currently in the US as part of a three-nation tour – took to Twitter to greet the nation on Eid. May the festival bring “peace and brotherhood” in society, he said in a tweet on 26 June

Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks culmination of the fasting month of Ramzan, is being celebrated in India on Monday.

During the 33rd edition of his Mann Ki Baat radio address on 25 June, PM Modi said that inspiration should be drawn from such pious festivals to spread happiness and to take the nation forward. India's diversity is its speciality as well as its strength, he said.

"The holy month of Ramzan was celebrated with devotion. Now it is time for Eid. On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, my best wishes to all," he had said.

President, Vice President, LS Speaker Greet Nation on Eid

President Pranab Mukherjee, on 25 June, wished the countrymen on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. May the festival bring prosperity to all and strengthen “faith in our unity and common destiny” that characterises India's composite culture, he said.

Extending his greetings to citizens, “particularly my Muslim brothers and sisters”, he said:

May this joyous occasion, which marks the culmination of the period of fasting and prayer during the Holy month of Ramzan, bring happiness, peace and prosperity and be an opportunity to rededicate ourselves to serve humanity. May this day strengthen in each one of us, an unflinching faith in our unity and common destiny that has characterised our composite culture over the ages.

Vice President Hamid Ansari extended his greetings on the occasion.

“I convey my heartiest greetings and good wishes to the people of our country on the joyous occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr,” he said.

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the culmination of the holy month of Ramzan and signifies the traditional expression of brotherhood and understanding between people. The festival reaffirms the spirit of compassion, charity and generosity in our lives. May the noble ideals associated with Eid-ul-Fitr enrich our lives with peace, harmony and the spirit of humanity.
