On Sunday, the crowds from the Pakistani side reportedly threw rocks at the Indian side during the beating retreat ceremony at Wagah border.

The BSF has asked for a flag meeting with their Pakistani counterparts over this issue but haven’t received a response yet.

A routine daily flag-lowering ceremony at an Indian-Pakistani border crossing became a show of strength and patriotism on Saturday on the Pakistani side thanks to simmering tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

The flag lowering ceremony which is not attended by too many people generally took on extra meaning because of an ongoing dispute between India and Pakistan over the Uri attack on 18 September that left 20 soldiers dead.

The latest spike in tensions between the two countries has spilled over into a cultural and political stand-off.
