CDR Case: Was Udita Goswami Snooping On Hubby?
In an ongoing investigation into the call detail record (CDR) case, the Thane crime branch on Wednesday recorded the statement of actress Udita Goswami. She had been called after the police learned that the CDRs of her director husband Mohit Suri were allegedly procured and shared with Goswami.
Goswami had reached the crime branch unit 1 of Thane Police along with Suri.
According to the police, during the ongoing probe, the investigators learned that Goswami had been allegedly given the CDR of Suri by an advocate in 2014.
Senior Police Inspector, Thane Crime branch, Nitin Thackrey, confirmed the development and said, “She (Udita Goswami) was called to record her statement.”
A police official said that in her statement on Wednesday afternoon, Goswami told the cops that her advocate had allegedly given her some documents and had told her to check if she had any doubts on any numbers.
DCP, crime branch, Thane, Abhishekh Trimukhe, said, “We have recorded the statements, and on the basis of their statements, we will be investigating the matter further. They have cooperated with us.”
While leaving the crime branch office, Suri said there were no allegations against them.

Protest Against Drug Addicts At St George’s Hospital
More than 100 nurses and paramedical staff of St. George’s Hospital refused to work for nearly three hours on Wednesday to protest against unsafe conditions. Alleging that the campus is frequented by drug addicts, the nurses said that their complaints are not being taken seriously by medical superintendent Dr Madhukar Gaikwad.
According to the nursing staff, in the past three months the drug addicts have been spotted thrice inside the student hostel building which houses almost 150 student nurses. “Last month, two drug addicts were spotted on the sixth floor of the hostel building; one of them was trying to enter a student nurse’s room when another student saw him and raised an alarm,” said a senior staff nurse.
“It has been a year now that we have been demanding more security guards and lights on the campus but our superintendent hasn’t tried to resolve the issue. We finally decided to protest,” said another staff nurse.

Mumbai Track Rage: Woman Suspect Held, Claims She Pushed Victim Angrily
A 38-year-old woman has been nabbed by the Kurla GRP for pushing 56-year-old Deepak Patwa to his death on the tracks at Mulund station on Saturday. Identified as Manisha Khakdiya, she was arrested yesterday from her Mahul home. The April 21 incident happened after Patwa accidentally bumped into Khakdiya at the station. Though he apologised immediately, she pushed him angrily. He fell on the track and was run over.
In her statement to the police, Khakdiya has said that she did not intend to kill Patwa but was angry that he'd touched her, while admitting that he had apologised. She added that the other man who pushed Patwa was not known to her and was just another passenger who'd intervened after seeing her shouting at Patwa.

Two Men Attack 56-Year-Old Woman With Knife In A Fit Of Rage
Two men attacked a 56-year-old woman with a knife, at her residence in Naupada on Sunday. The duo allegedly committed the crime in a fit of rage, after refusing to pay back a Rs 1 lakh loan that they had borrowed from her.
The accused have been identified as Shammu Tiwari and Ramesh Giri. While Giri has been arrested by the Naupada police, Tiwari is currently on the run. Meanwhile, the victim has been admitted to a local hospital, and is currently out of danger.
According to police officials, the victim called up the two accused and asked them to return her money. When they demanded a month's time, the woman got angry saying that they had been making the same false promise for over a year, and further threatened to complain about them to the police. Infuriated over the warning, the accused allegedly committed the crime.

New Masterplan Of Mumbai: Repopulate The Island City
Despite fears that the island city of Mumbai remains ill-equipped to cope with the unprecedented real estate boom that the region has witnessed in the past decade, the Maharashtra government has plans to attract people back to south and south-central Mumbai.
In a major policy shift, the commercial capital’s new 20-year development blueprint (Development Plan-2034) has decided to repopulate the island city of Mumbai, which had reported in a 10 per cent drop in the residential population in the last Census.
With average population densities in south and central Mumbai higher than those in the suburbs, successive state governments in the past had adopted a policy of decongesting the island city by incentivising residential construction in the suburbs and satellite towns. In the 2011 Census, the island city was found to have seen a 10 per cent drop in population — from 33.26 lakh in 2001 to 31.45 lakh in 2011 — which had coincided with an 8 per cent population growth in the suburbs. Smaller municipalities, including Thane and Navi Mumbai, recorded an even higher decadal growth rate.

Maharashtra’s Situation Worse Than Bihar: Uddhav Thackeray
Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday said Maharashtra’s condition was worse than Bihar. “The Shiv Sena has always demanded a separate independent minister for the Home portfolio. The situation of Maharshtra is worse than Bihar,” Thackeray said. The remark comes in the backdrop of the recent attack against party’s local leaders, Sanjay Kotkar and Vasant Anand Thube, who were killed in Khedgaon taluka of Ahmednagar.
Although Sena did not name Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Thackeray’s comments were directed to him, as he holds the home ministry portfolio.
Responding to Sena’s home minister demand, earlier this month, Fadnavis had said: “In the past, even the NCP home minister R R Patil has once said in the Assembly that the portfolio of the home minister should be held by the chief minister.” The Sena’s continued criticism against Fadnavis and his government has not gone down well with the ruling BJP. A senior BJP leader said: “We have an able chief minister in Devendra Fadnavis who will give befitting reply at an appropriate time. Moreover, Fadnavis’ work speaks. The biggest anti-Naxal operation has been conducted under his leadership.”

Atleast 10 Men Get Five-Year Jail For ‘Plotting’ Mahesh Bhatt Murder
Ten men were convicted and two acquitted in connection to a plot to murder Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt, allegedly on instructions of gangster Ravi Pujari in 2014. The 10 men were sentenced to a five-year jail term after they had been found guilty under various charges, including criminal conspiracy and abetment to crime punishable with life imprisonment or death, and relevant sections of the Arms Act.
Special Judge SM Bhosale acquitted all 12 men of charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. According to the prosecution, led by Special Public Prosecutor Pradeep Gharat, the men were arrested when they were preparing to attack Bhatt at his Khar office.
The police claimed that the attack was planned to spread terror in the Hindi film industry after one of the absconding accused was refused overseas distribution rights of a film. The men were, however, arrested before the plan could be executed.
