1. It’s the ‘Golden Era’ for Welfare in State, Says Governor

Governor ESL Narasimhan has termed the ongoing phase of governance in Telangana as “golden era” for welfare as the government has been implementing welfare schemes at a whopping Rs 40,000 crore a year and no other state in the country, not even the Centre, has made such huge allocation for welfare.

In his Republic Day address at the Parade Grounds here on Saturday, the Governor stated that keeping the promises made during the recently held Assembly election, the government would reduce the age limit for old-age pension to 57 years and double the pension amount. He said schemes implemented for welfare and development of all sections had ensured huge victory to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s leadership and his pro-people policies.

The Class 10 students of government schools in Hyderabad are in for a treat, quite literally, but at a ‘cost’. Those students who would attend extra classes ahead of SSC examination would now be provided with snacks. A decision to this effect, taken by the District Education Officer of Hyderabad, would benefit 7,600 students studying in state-run schools.

Snacks like boiled chana and peanuts, biscuits, banana and pulihora would be given to students who attend special classes for examination preparation before and after school hours. Students reach their schools by 8 am and leave at around 6 pm. In the meantime, they only get one government-sponsored mid-day meal, which is the first meal of the day for many.
