1. 2 Held for Printing Fake Currencies in Karnataka

Police on Tuesday, 25 December arrested two persons for allegedly printing and circulating fake currencies in denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 2,000.

City police commissioner DC Rajappa told reporters the case will be handed over the CID since face value of the seized fake banknotes is more than Rs 1 crore.

Based on a tipoff, police arrested Asif Shaikh and Mohammad Rafiq Desai near Channamma Cooperative Credit Society in Karnataka when they were exchanging bags loaded with counterfeit banknotes.

Rajappa said Asif Shaikh, who recently returned from Dubai, was said to be good at printing technology and used to print notes at home after designing them on easy-to-download computer apps.

2. Rape Victim Shot at in UP’s Jhansi, FIR Lodged

A 40-year-old rape victim was shot at while she was on her way to a temple on a two-wheeler in Jhansi on Tuesday, 25 December.

The woman, who sustained a bullet injury on her shoulder for which she is undergoing treatment, alleged the two who intercepted her were Pankaj Birthare – whom she had named in the rape case lodged two years ago, and his associate Sharad Upadhyay.

Police have lodged an FIR against Pankaj and Sharad on charge of attempt to murder.

“In her statement, the victim said the two walked towards her, after which one took out a pistol and fired. The bullet hit her on the right shoulder. As she screamed for help, the duo escaped,” said A K Singh, SO of Navabad police station.

3. Doctor Arrested for Raping Minor Girl

A doctor was arrested for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl in Thane, Maharashtra.

“He ran a small clinic in the area where the victim used to work as a helper. He raped her and threatened that she would be fired if she told anyone,” an officer from Kolsewadi said.

The girl narrated the ordeal to her parents and approached the police on Wednesday, 26 December.

“We registered the FIR under Sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and arrested the doctor,” said a senior officer.

4. Six Cops Booked on Charges of 'Killing' a Dalit Youth in UP

Six policemen, including an inspector and a sub-inspector, were booked on Wednesday, 26 December, on charges of "killing" a Dalit youth in their custody in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district, said a senior official.

The police said on a complaint of the victim's relative Jai Prakash, the six policemen were also booked on various charges under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

As per the complaint lodged with the police in case, Balkishan, a resident of Basi Sherpur of Mandi Dhanaura in Amroha, had been picked up by the police on 23 December for questioning into a case of the purchase of stolen motorcycle and was thrown behind bars.

On deterioration of his health on the night intervening of 25 December and 26 December, Balkishan was rushed to a hospital where he was declared "brought dead".

5. Sena Man Held for Threatening Temple Staff

A deputy shakha pramukh (head of the branch) with the Shiv Sena was arrested on Tuesday, 25 December, for brandishing a revolver and threatening staff at a temple in Mumbai’s Borivali East.

The accused, Vijay Ghatal, has a crime record, Kasturba Marg police said.

Police said there is a dispute between him and the authorities at Sai Baba temple.

"When Ghatal wasn't allowed access to the premises on Tuesday, he pulled out his revolver and threatened to shoot if the door wasn't opened. Later, he fled. The temple authorities lodged an FIR, following which he was arrested," an officer said.

6. Delhi Cop Tries to Stop Robbery Bid, Stabbed

A police constable was stabbed in south Delhi’s Ambedkar Nagar on Tuesday, 25 December, when he tried to stop a robbery attempt.

The accused was later traced and arrested. DCP (south) Vijay Kumar said the cop has been identified as Sohan Lal, while the accused, Zuber, has been arrested under IPC Sections of attempt to murder and robbery.

A preliminary probe revealed that the incident when Lal, who is posted at Neb Sarai was returning home after work. In his statement, he said when he was about to reach, he saw a youth beating a boy and stopped his motorcycle to intervene.

When he approached them, the accused pulled out a knife and asked him to back off, leading to a scuffle. In a fit of rage, Zuber stabbed Lal multiple times and fled. Injured Lal, however, managed to contact his friend posted in Ambedkar Nagar police station.

7. Minor Girl Raped by Man in Delhi’s Madhu Vihar

A 13-year-old girl, a daughter of a rickshaw puller, was allegedly raped by a man in Madhu Vihar area of Dwarka, Delhi, police said on Wednesday, 26 December.

The incident occurred on 25 December when the minor stepped out of her house for some work. The victim told police that while she was on her way, she was stopped by the accused on the street who forcefully took her to a secluded home in the same locality and raped her, a senior police officer said.

The accused then threatened the victim of dire consequences if she reported the matter to anyone, the officer said.

The 24-year-old accused has been arrested and sent to judicial custody, he said.

8. Man Arrested for Flashing at Two Women at Mumbai’s Marine Drive

A 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly flashing in a drunk condition, at two women on the Marine Drive promenade, Mumbai on Saturday, 22 December.

The accused, Mohamed Wakil Salmani, works as a contract barber with the Indian Navy.

According to police officers, when the two women were sitting at the promenade, Salmani came and sat near them. He then started making lewd comments, uncomfortable, the women moved away.

The women registered a case against Salmani. He was booked under Sections 354(outraging modesty of a woman) and 509(word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC.

9. Man Shot Dead in Delhi's Keshav Puram

A 50-year-old man was shot dead on Wednesday, 26 December, allegedly by unidentified persons in northwest Delhi's Keshav Puram area, police said.

The deceased was identified as Vinod Garg, a resident of Rohini Sector-6.

Garg was going on a scooter when the incident took place at the Lawrence road underpass. The officer said Garg was unaware about a man, who was shouting for help being robbed by unidentified bike-borne men. The accused got panicked and they fired to intimate the man but the bullet hit Garg on his chest.

Police suspect robbery as the motive behind the incident since the accused took Garg's bag which had around Rs 3,000 cash, the DCP added.

A case has been registered and police teams have been formed to arrest the accused, police said, adding that further investigation is underway.
