A folk singer from Haryana, Mamta Sharma, was found dead in Baniyani Village in Rohtak, Haryana on 18 January.
She was found dead in Rohtak in a field in Baniyani village. Villagers discovered her corpse with her throat slit, lying in a field, and reported the discovery to the Kalanaur Police station, some distance from Baniyani.
She had reportedly been missing since 14 January, when she left home with a fellow artist.
When she failed to return, her son filed a missing persons report at Kalanaur police station on 15 January.
She left our house on 14 January, Sunday, with her fellow artist, Mohit, around 8:30 pm. I spoke to her last after that. She called and said that the car had been stopped by some people. Mohit apparently told her it would take another 30-40 minutes and that they were going to Gohana village in Sonipat. That was the last time I spoke to her.Bharat, Mamata’s son
At the outset, police have speculated that she was murdered at another spot and her body was dumped in the village.
Her son has alleged that if the police had acted sooner, his mother would still be alive.
Police however stated that they took cognisance of the case and began following up as soon as they received the complaint from her son.
They added that they have launched a probe into the murder.
