Heavy rains in Delhi delayed at least 17 flights and brought traffic to a standstill across the capital on Friday 7, September, ANI reported.
The rain brought traffic to a standstill in many parts of the city. Residents took to social media to lament their traffic-related woes. Delhi Traffic Police responded to many residents’ complaints with assurances that the local traffic police had been directed to take necessary action to help ease the traffic situation.
"The skies will remain generally cloudy. There is possibility of light rain tomorrow," a MeT official said. The official said the minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to settle at 26.6 degrees and 34.4 degrees Celsius respectively.
At least 17 flights were delayed, ANI reported. Flight carrier Vistara confirmed that its Srinagar-Delhi flight had been diverted to Amritsar because of air traffic congestion.
Flight operators also issued an advisory to passengers travelling out of Delhi, to allow for extra time on account of rain affecting air traffic. Many carriers also issued advisories that delays are to be expected on account of the rain.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over Delhi, Haryana, parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chandigarh, and many other parts of North India, on 7 September.
The IMD has also predicted fairly widespread showers on 8 September for Delhi, with scattered showers on 9 September.
The MeT Department’s website also predicted isolated rainfall for 10 and 11 September in Delhi, Haryana, and Chandigarh.
