In an unexpected announcement this weekend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India would join 60 other nations in ratifying the Paris Climate Change Agreement. His statement came after a government official said the country would not be ready to ratify the agreement before 2017.
The agreement, written about a year ago, pledges to address climate change by limiting global warming to 2 degrees Celsius and invest in technologies that would reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
China and USA have already ratified the agreement.
