A lot has changed since Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the demonetisation policy on 8 November. Leaving aside all the large-scale socio-economic effects of the currency crunch, we also have a case where a man purportedly made a cheque of five rupees to pay for using a public toilet in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

Wait, what?

Yes, you heard that right! Even Modi, despite going all out with his rhetoric about shifting to a cashless economy, would not have thought that he would be taken so seriously!

After all, desperate times require even more desperate measures.

A picture of the cheque addressed to the “Public Toilet Madurai” with “Five Rupees Only” written quite clearly was shared by a Facebook user. Not surprisingly, it made quite an impression on social media:

While it is not verified whether this actually happened, we certainly hope it did! After all, humour is more than necessary in times like these. And we do not even have to pay for it, in hard cash or digitally!
