There’s nothing in life that can match the childhood joy of going outside to play with your friends. When your friends would ring the doorbell, cricket bat and ball in hand and ask your parents if you could come out and play, you would immediately rush out, half listening to your mom or dad telling you to come back on time.

Pretending to have a stomach ache to skip school was one thing but actually being sick and watching your friends play without you was the most horrible feeling in the world. Sadly 1/3 of Indian kids* fall ill repeatedly even before they turn 5 years old because of poor sanitation and hygiene. Watch the heart-breaking story of Lalli and her friends trying to form a cricket team while struggling to keep all the players healthy.

Ramkulla, Lalli’s village and three other neighbouring villages were covered under HUL’s Swachh Aadat, Swachh Bharat on-ground programme. The school children and the adults of the villages were taught about 3 hygiene practices – washing their hands five times a day with soap, drinking clean water and using a clean toilet – that they need to adopt to stay healthy. So that, Ramkulla’s kids have a better shot at staying healthy for cricket tournaments and for school.

Since 2015, Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) has been promoting their Swachh Aadat, Swachh Bharat programme to encourage good health and hygiene practices. Their Haath, Munh, Bum – Bimari Hogi Kam digital campaign is teaching India how to stay healthy. Help spread these three simple life-saving habits, so that Lalli can have her playing 11, and India can achieve a playing billion.
