The Vivek Oberoi-starrer, PM Narendra Modi, hit the screens today, a sort of after party to the celebrations of Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party’s sweeping victory in the Lok Sabha elections - the biopic on the Prime Minister’s life, PM Narendra Modi.
I watched the film this morning and there were barely 10 people in the audience. Considering that Modi and the BJP party have registered such a huge victory in the elections just yesterday, the response in the theatres felt underwhelming. The fault is perhaps not with Modi as a subject then, but the film itself.
So will the Narendra Modi’s victory help the biopic’s box office fate? Will it secure a good opening weekend? And will reel-life Modi turn out to be the big hit that the elections results have been for the real-life Modi?

Interestingly, the Omung Kumar film was expected to be released in about 850 screens, but after yesterday’s massive victory for BJP, the demand went up, and now the film has released in 1246 screens. Which means an increase in 400 theatres.
But things are not looking very good for PM Narendra Modi at the moment. According to a trade source, there are no real expectations from the film. The prediction they are setting at is around Rs 1.5 crore in collections on day one. The occupancy in the morning shows was quite low, at around 10 to 15 percent. And with the bad reviews coming in it looks like only the most ardent fans of Modi may go into the theatres to watch the film.
The elections are over, results are out, and Modi has become the Prime Minister. So now the only way the film could gain momentum is if it got good reviews. But even that hasn’t happened.
