After a global premiere on 8 November, Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan will be released in China on 28 December. The actor’s films have been well-received in the Chinese market with Dangal earning Rs 1,276 crore and Secret Superstar raking in Rs 760 crore. Thugs is one of eight Indian films that have released in China in 2018, with other titles including 102 Not Out and Padman.

Director Vijay Krishna Acharya's earlier film Dhoom 3 earned a lifetime total of $3.19 million after it released in China in July 2014, seven months after its Indian premiere.

The release date might prove to dampen the film’s collections in the Chinese box office as it is set to clash with 10 local titles that will debut between 28 December and 30 December.

After amassing Rs 52 crore on opening day, Thugs of Hindostan saw a massive drop in collections and tanked at the Indian box office. Aamir Khan was quoted at an event as saying, “I take full responsibility for Thugs not working with the audience. I think we went wrong. But I would like to take full responsibility for that. We certainly tried our best. We didn’t leave any stone unturned in our efforts. But somewhere, we went wrong.”
