Sonam Kapoor reacted to the sexual assault allegation against Vikas Bahl at the ‘We The Women’ event in Bengaluru on Sunday evening. Speaking to journalist Barkha Dutt, Sonam began by saying that she was disgusted on reading about what the director of Queen had done:
Sonam: “This whole thing that’s happened at Phantom, it’s disgusting, it’s gut wrenching, I know these people, I know all of them.”
Q: How are you going to deal with them, given that you know about them
Sonam: “I don’t now how I am going to deal with it. All I know is that I believe this woman. I find this behaviour despicable and cowardly. When my dad read about it, he said - ‘whatever happens to these men, they deserve it’. I come from such a background, and when I asked my dad ‘why is no one saying anything or doing anything?’ and he’s like ‘beta, the world is such but we need to change it’. So I want to tell boys and girls out there that even if it’s just one person saying something, it makes a difference. I feel that, even if I said something, it gives Tanushree some courage to keep talking about it.”
Q: But Vikas Bahl is a big name in the industry, do you think people in the industry will take a stand against him?
Sonam: “I think Kangana wrote something, Kangana is obviously Kangana Ranaut, she says a lot of stuff and sometimes it’s hard to take her seriously, but I love the fact that she has spunk and that she says what she believes, and I really respect her for that. I don’t know him, I don’t know the situation, but if what is written is true then it’s disgusting and it’s awful, they should be completely punished for it.”
