From fake claims about the United States using Indian airspace to attack Iran circulating on the internet to misinformation around Zohran Mamdani, read our weekly recap to find out Team WebQoof's top five fact-check stories.

1. Did United States Use Indian Airspace To Conduct Strikes Against Iran? No!

A post was doing the rounds on social media platforms, claiming that the United States of America (USA) used Indian airspace to conduct its recent strikes against Iran.

However, we found no evidence to support the claim that the United States had indeed used Indian airspace to conduct strikes against Iran.

  • Additionally, Press Information Bureau's (PIB) fact-checking wing clarified that the viral claim was "fake".

2. Fact-Check: No, Zohran Mamdani Hasn't Been Elected as the Mayor of NYC Yet

Social media users shared posts suggesting that Zohran Mamdani, a member of the state assembly and Indian-American filmmaker Mira Nair's son, has been recently elected as the Mayor of New York.

However, the claim was misleading. While Mamdani won the NYC mayoral election primary, he has not won the mayoral general elections, which are scheduled for November 2025.

3. AI-Generated Image of Rahul Gandhi at George Soros' Son's Wedding Viral as Real

A photo of Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi went viral on the internet with a claim that he attended Alex Soros' wedding, who is the son of American businessman George Soros.

Team WebQoof found that the image had been generated using AI and is not a real visual as claimed.

4.  Is This a Recent Image of Iran’s Police Headquarters in Tehran Burning? No!

After the recent tensions that broke out between Israel and Iran, an image went viral on the internet to claim that it showed recent visuals of police headquarters in Iran's Tehran burning.

However, the truth is that the image could be traced back to at least May 2020 and reportedly showed the dome of the Malek Ashtar Mosque in Tehran burning.

5. AI-Generated Image Falsely Viral as Real Visuals of Uttarakhand Bus Accident

Social media users shared an image of a broken down bus in water linking it to the bus accident in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag on 26 June 2025, which resulted in the death of two pilgrims and ten others were reported missing.

Multiple discrepancies and AI detection tools showed that the image was actually generated using AI tools.
