From unrelated visuals being linked to the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela to misinformation surrounding the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, here's a quick recap of some of the most viral pieces of misinformation we debunked this week.

1. False Claim About Muslim Man Caught Urinating on Kumbh Poster in Raebareli Viral

A video showing a man being thrashed on the streets went viral with a communal claim, which stated that a Muslim man urinated on a Kumbh poster in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh.

However, the claim is false. Raibareli police clarified on their X page that the name of the man in the video was Vinod and that he didn't belong to the Muslim community.

2. Man Calling for Boycott of Reliance, Patanjali Misidentified as Himalaya Founder

A clip showing a man urging individuals to avoid purchasing items from Reliance and Baba Ramdev's Patanjali in Delhi has gone viral on social media, where users claimed that the man was the 'owner of Himalaya company'.

However, the person has been misidentified.

We found that the individual in the viral video is Bhanu Pratap Singh, a lawyer from Delhi, who gave this speech at a protest in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in January 2020.

3. Image Shows Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán in Kochi, Not Prayagraj Maha Kumbh Mela

A photo showing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is going viral on social media to claim that he recently visited the Maha Kumbh Mela happening in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

However, the claim is false. The photo shows Orbàn in Kochi, not Uttar Pradesh, in January 2025.

4. This Viral Video of Canadian MP Chandra Arya Speaking in Kannada Is Old

A video of Canadian Member of Parliament (MP) Chandra Arya is being circulated to claim that it shows him speaking in Kannada after announcing that he will be running for the country's Prime Minister position.

The claim was shared by journalists from organisations like TV9 Network and Business Today.

Is it true?: No, the claim is misleading. The viral speech dates back to May 2022, when Arya had spoken in Kannada (his mother tongue) in the Canadian Parliament.

5. AI-Generated Images of Salman Khan Visiting Saif Ali Khan in Hospital Viral

After the knife attack on actor Saif Ali Khan in his Mumbai home by an intruder, a set of images showing him in a hospital bed and actor Salman Khan sitting next to him are being shared to claim that it shows the latter visiting him at the hospital.

However, these images were made using artificial intelligence.
