A video of a traffic police constable from Assam is doing rounds on social media, after it showed the policeman performing his duty amid a thunder shower that lashed the state capital around noon.

In the video, the police official Mithun Das can be seen standing bold without a raincoat – at the busy Basistha traffic intersection in Guwahati, despite heavy rainfall.

As the video started doing rounds, Assam police also hailed Das's commitment and took the moment to Twitter. In a post, the police department said, "Dedication is thy name! We salute AB Constable Mithun Das (Basistha PS) of @GuwahatiPol, for his exceptional devotion towards duty and showing us how dedication can turn a storm into a sprinkle." [sic]

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Das said, “My duty hours were from 7 am to 12 pm. The storm started around 5 minutes before noon, but since my replacement hadn’t come, I continued my job in the rain for nearly 20 minutes.”

The daily quoting Guwahati police commissioner Deepak Kumar added that the police department will soon award Das for exemplary duty.

‘Assam Salutes You’

The incident was also hailed by passerby as they shared the moment on Twitter.
