#GoodNews: ‘Blade Runner’ DP Singh 1st Disabled Veteran to Skydive

The skydive was conducted in Nashik alongside a team of Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information.

Major DP Singh, a Kargil war veteran widely known as the ‘Indian Blade Runner’, has become the first battle casualty disabled Indian soldier to complete a skydive.

He was trained by the Indian Army to perform the feat, which marks the first ever successful skydive by a battle casualty veteran (leg amputee) in India.

The skydive was conducted in Nashik alongside a team of Indian Army's Additional Directorate General of Public Information.

This, the Army said, is an endorsement of the “spirit of adventure” of all disabled soldiers who suffered physical/war injuries in peace and war time, as per ANI.

Singh had lost his right leg during the Kargil war and uses a prosthetic leg.

Army Chief General Bipin Rawat had approved the activity for the officer to commemorate the “Year of Disabled in the Line of Duty”.

Singh had started training for the dive on 18 March, wherein he was trained under the ‘First Jump Course’, ANI reported.

The training culminated on 28 March, following which Singh completed the dive successfully.
