Today, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi will be arriving in India as part of a historical visit. This will be his third official visit to India since taking charge in Cairo in 2014. This time, however, he will be the chief guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations on 26 January.

This is the very first time that Egypt’s president will be the chief guest. A 149-strong Egyptian military contingent will be participating in the Republic Day parade while the first joint exercise between the special forces of the Indian and the Egyptian Army, ‘Exercise Cyclone – I‘ has been underway in Jaisalmer since 14 January.
