A video reportedly featuring businessman Anant Ambani endorsing a gaming application developed by the Ambani Group called, 'Avi,' that could enhance the earnings of middle-class Indians is being shared on social media.

In the video, he can be heard saying:

"I know that supermarket cashiers earn around seven thousand rupees per month, drivers earn around twelve thousand rupees, and teachers earn around eighteen thousand rupees per month. This is very little. I know how to fix this. There is a new app called 'Avi by Ambani.' With this app, a player's average income can reach forty-one thousand rupees per week. Even children can play because the game is very simple. You just launch a plane, and your money keeps increasing until you decide to stop. If you have ₹300-400 and can tap on a screen with your finger, simply download Avi by Ambani from the link below and receive a special bonus from me. This is my gift to all residents of India."
Anant Ambani says this in the purported viral video.

Is the claim true?: No, the claim is false as the audio used in the video has been generated using artificial intelligence (AI).

  • The original video dates back to 2024 when Ambani held a press conference about Vantara, an animal reserve in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

What we found: At first, we noticed the background poster which noted, 'Vantara.' Along with this, a logo of Business Today also featured in the viral clip.

  • Taking this as the cue, we ran a relevant keyword search and came across a report from February 2024 about Anant Ambani talking about Vantara and programmes.

  • The report featured a video which matched with the viral video.

  • Following this, we ran another keyword search to find about the 'Avi App.' However, did not find any credible reports or press releases of any such new ventures by the Reliance group.

  • Team WebQoof, then, decided to run this video on an AI-detection website as these cues signalled that the clip could be manipulated.

  • We ran the clip on Hive Moderation and found that the audio was 99% "likely AI"

  • A report by Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU) analysed the purported video and concluded that it was fabricated which contained synthetic audio.

  • Experts identified the silences and inconsistencies in the audio track, suggesting the use of advanced AI-generated voice techniques. It also noted that the video's visual elements appeared authentic, however, certain timestamps revealed discrepancies between lip movements and the audio, indicating possible manipulation.

About the link in the viral post: The viral video carried a link as well.

  • We opened the link and were led to a website looking like that of the Google Playstore.

  • We found that this link could be fraudulent in nature. Firstly, the URL name (https://india-ambani-game.lol/) was not similar as regular play store URLs'.

  • Wherever we tapped on the website, it led to the same page as shown in the screenshot above.

  • We then checked the URL on "whois.com" to find more details about it.

  • The website was registered on 12 February and would expire in March 2026.

Conclusion: The viral video of Ambani promoting a gaming app has been manipulated as the audio in the video is generated using AI.
