1. Father Kuriakose’s Death Pre-Planned Murder: Rape Survivor’s Kin

Father Kuriakose Kattuthara, one of the prime witnesses who had testified against rape accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal, was found dead in Hoshiarpur on Monday, 22 October.

The priest’s family has filed a complaint with the Alappuzha Police, seeking an inquiry into his death. The cause of the death is yet to be known.

2. PMO Summons CBI Dir & Deputy Over Public Spat, Bribery Charges

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Monday reportedly summoned CBI chief Alok Verma and his deputy Rakesh Asthana amid public fighting involving corruption allegations.

This comes after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in an unprecedented move, booked Asthana for allegedly receiving bribes from middlemen to give relief to a businessman being probed by him in a case involving meat exporter Moin Qureshi.

Meanwhile, the CBI on Monday arrested Devendra Kumar, DSP, CBI, on the allegation of falsification of records in an ongoing investigation into the Moin Qureshi case. He was earlier the IO in the case.

3. Ira Trivedi Exposes Chetan Bhagat E-Mails, Sends Legal Notice

“In his response to my piece in Outlook on 13 October in which I accused Chetan Bhagat of sexual harassment, Bhagat lied on Twitter to his 12.3 million followers. He accused me of wanting to kiss him. By this one tweet, he has maligned me, shamed me and harassed me further,” writes Ira Trivedi.

4. Commuters Suffer as Delhi Auto-Cab Unions & Ola, Uber Call Strike

Strike called by autorickshaw and taxi unions on Monday, 22 October, crippled traffic movement in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).

The one-day strike was called by Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, one of the major auto-taxi unions in Delhi, and supported by others like All India Tour and Transport Association (AITTA).

The unions were protesting against the Delhi government’s policies on cab aggregators Uber and Ola, and the Centre’s rule on speed governors, reported Hindustan Times.

While Dalbir Singh, the beloved Ravana performer from Amritsar’s Joda Phatak, stood in awe of the effigy being burnt infront of him, he was sucked under the wheels of a train that took the life of him and 60 others.

Barely 24 hours before he died he had received a standing ovation for his performance in the local Ramleela.
