A man who cleans chimneys dressed as Spiderman in the southern Chilean town of Osorno explained how he decided to give a superhero touch to his business.

When Rolando Gonzalez started cleaning chimneys he discovered kids would stare at him all day long and thought about ways to spin his new profession for the better.

One day, I started to clean chimneys to make some money. And, when I was on top of the house, I saw some children looking at me, and I waved at them, “Hello children”, and the little ones waved back, but timidly. So, I thought about doing a dance for the children and I started dancing, and when I greeted them again they answered me more excitedly.

Gonzalez wanted to come up with more ways to form a connection with kids who stare at him from windows, and that’s when it hit him.

“I remembered that I had a Spiderman suit at home, because I like Spiderman... so I put on my suit and climbed on the roof as Spiderman, and then I realised that the children liked it very much,” he said.

But it is not all soot and superheroes. Once Ronaldo is done cleaning the clogged chimneys of Chile, he gives talks to his new fans on the web about fire safety.

“I give a talk to the children about self-care in relation to wood stoves, so that they don’t get close to combustions, so they don’t burn their hands,” he said.
