India defeated Malaysia to win gold at the badminton mixed team final, bagging the country its 10th gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The in-form Saina Nehwal crushed Malaysian hopes with a 21-11 19-21 21-9 win over Soniia Cheah in the women's singles match, clinching the gold with a 3-1 victory.

Nehwal, who has played every one of the women's singles matches in the event, had enough in her arsenal to thwart a fighting Cheah.

A jubilant India congratulated Nehwal on her win.

Fellow sportsman from the cricketing fraternity, Harbhajan Singh, wasn’t far behind either.

India’s ministers joined the bandwagon, congratulating Nehwal and Team India on the “fabulous win.”

Senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai tweeted that coach P Gopichand should probably be given the Bharat Ratna for his coaching.

And India as a whole wanted to congratulate Saina on her victory:

Saina’s victory also ensured that the women's doubles pair of N Sikki Reddy and Ashwini did not have to show up for their clash against Vivian Hoo and Mei Kuan Chow.
